The marketing team at SolarWinds recently put out a series of videos titled "Geek Memories" which prompted me to recollect on my own. When you've had years in the IT industry, you tend to experience events that seem to only happen to geeks. I believe this is mostly because of a phenomenon I like to call geek humor. Simply put, we find things funny that not everyone else would.
As geeks, we often spend time playing with technology in the lab, honing our geek skills. The process of installing and configuring lab resources, at that time, was time consuming and boring. I remember back when I first started out in IT consulting, my buddy (and coworker) and I were listening to music while doing some lab work (or at least that what we should have been doing, but we were probably just goofing off). For some odd reason, we decided to start miming the lyrics to the currently playing song. While this was going on, we were laughing so hard at our new found talents that we lost focus of everything else going on around us. We definitely did not think to see if anyone noticed. I'm pretty sure someone saw us, and they probably thought we had lost our minds.
I have plenty of other geek memories, but I'll save those for another time. But, below are the videos from the marketing team for your enjoyment. They may help you recollect some of your fond geek memories as well.
