Reboot

It's been over four years since my last blog post. A lot has gone on in those four years, including my domain expiring and my blog going offline. Ultimately, there is too much to recount (for now), so I will instead turn my attention to a new venture.

I am about to embark on something I hope will rekindle my interest in programming. It's been about 20 years since I really did any true development work (this is what I get for deciding to go down the product management route), and I am about to start from scratch. During the last 20 years I have had several opportunities to leverage my programming background and knowledge, to develop useful IT automation scripts, but that is the extent of any development efforts during that time.

Now my goal is to go through online tutorial resources and "re-learn" front end development concepts. I know there are many newer concepts I will need to learn, but I suspect a lot of it will be just like riding a bike (sorry for the cliché). I originally went to school to study computer science and one of my first jobs had me doing quite a bit of front end development, but that knowledge quickly went by the wayside as I pursued non-developer related job opportunities.

To support my learning path, I will attempt to document my efforts along the way. Hence why I have rebooted this blog site. My plan is to recap any of the learning modules I go through, provide essentially a review of those resources, and post the project work from my learnings. If you are interested to read any of my historical posts, you will find they are littered with cross postings from my previous roles in product management and solution engineering. None of it is related to programming. From here on out, my plan is to dedicate this blog to my front end development learning efforts, and eventually my progress to building a portfolio of development work.

Again, this blog will be the place where I recount my learning and portfolio building activities, and hopefully entertain some of you, but more importantly I hope it will help someone else in the future, should they decide to go down a similar path. There are many people who decide to make career changes at some point in their lives. Many of those people will often attempt to go down the path of becoming a developer. Since I am focusing on learning everything from scratch, the coming blog series could be of benefit to those people.

If I am successful, I will again have become an effective front end developer (even if I decide not to pursue it as a full-time career option), built a solid portfolio through project and pro bono work, and created an opportunity to develop a supplemental income stream, doing something I enjoyed in my youth. Hopefully this journey will completely rekindle my interests and give me the option to support my family full time. Even if it does not allow the creation of a new income stream, I still seem to have a promising career as a product leader.
